“Build a global mindset through on-site training at a 5-star global chain hotel!”

  • Jeonju University Department of Hotel Management, LINC 3.0 global employment training program to strengthen field capabilities!

Students from Jeonju University’s Department of Hotel Management received support from the  government funded LINC 3.0 project and conducted a training program to strengthen overseas employment field capabilities at the Mondrian Hotel, a 5-star global chain hotel.

Students from Jeonju University’s Hotel Management Department participated in field training at the Mondrian Hotel in Itaewon, Seoul for two days from November 13th to 14th, wearing uniforms and directly participating in various hotel practices.

The 5-star global chain Mondrian Hotel is located in Itaewon, Seoul.  The hotel opened in December 2020 and is the first Mondrian chain hotel in Asia, and is famous for its bold and captivating design inspired by the works of Dutch painter Piet Mondrian.

Students directly checked in and out at the hotel’s front desk using the Opera System, an accommodation reservation system, and received table manners training in the food and beverage department as well as actual customer service skills and know-how from managers.

The students also received a special lecture on global hotel organization from Mondrian Hotel Vice General Manager Park Soon-young, as well as guidance on cultivating a global mindset and English interview techniques.

Participating student Lee Je-wook said, “I am aiming to get a job overseas, and I received good education that allowed me to gain a sense of the field in advance at domestic and overseas chain hotels.  “I had some fears about hotel field work, but I gained confidence through this training,” he said.

This project, which was carried out with support from the Link 3.0 Project Group, involved 9 students preparing for overseas employment under the guidance of Professor Shim Young-guk and Professor Todd Morris of the Department of Hotel Management at Jeonju University.

Jeonju University’s Department of Hotel Management announced that it conducted this field education program to strengthen students’ global employment capabilities and cultivate hotel field sense and knowledge.

Professor Shim Young-guk of the Department of Hotel Management said, “This overseas employment competency strengthening training focused on helping students acquire a sense of the field of global chain hotels by further expanding the training they had only been exposed to through theory.  There were good results from this training last year, and I expect good results from overseas employment this year as well.  “I am grateful to the on-campus LINC 3.0 project team and the hotel for making this excellent education possible.”
