JJ Student Association 'Gifts Time' for Summer Rural Volunteer Service The Jeonju University Student Association conducted volunteer work to help rural workers in seven villages in Gochang-gun and Jinan-gun for four nights and five days from June 27 (Mon) to July 1 (Fri). We practiced community service activities that add strength and revitalize rural areas in Jeollabuk-do, which are suffering from the COVID-19 situation and lack of manpower. About 250 students from Jeonju University participated, and they carried out activities to help rural workers in rice paddies/fields such as ginseng fields, pepper fields, and raspberry fields. In addition, they conducted various activities suitable for the rural village site, such as beautifying the village environment, making and serving food (Deep-fried Sugar Glazed Sweet Potato Wedges etc.), and visiting the elderly's home. Lee Hwan, president of Jeonju University's student council, said, "Although it is a short period of time, I hope Jeonju University's students will have a time to cultivate a spirit of service and be rewarded through rural volunteer activities, and rural villages will be a little lively." Professor Lee Sang-haeng, head of Jeonju University's student employment department, said, "The summer vacation is not the busiest time for farming, but there is still a shortage of workers in rural areas." He also said, "I hope that the warm hearts and hands of our students have been delivered to the farms, and we will continue to do activities that are helpful to both the university and the community." |
