About the Undergraduate Program

  You will study the sounds, grammar, and meaning of language, as well as how language is used in different social and cultural contexts. You will also explore the cognitive processes involved in language acquisition and how language is processed in the brain. Plus, as an English Department student, you will analyze various literary genres, including poetry, drama, and prose, and explore their themes and techniques. You will develop critical thinking skills as you interpret and evaluate different literary works, and learn how to express your ideas effectively through writing and oral presentations. In addition to learning about the mechanics of language, English Language and Literature student also develop practical skills, such as critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and effective communication. These skills are highly valued in a variety of professions, including education, journalism, law, and business. Overall, our department will provide a unique opportunity to explore one of the most fundamental aspects of human experience, to develop critical thinking and communication skills, and to contribute to our understanding of the world around us.
