Jeonju University's Korean Food Cooking Department performed the duties of Korean food diplomats by producing 70 officia

For last 10 years, Jeonju University's Department of Korean Food and Cooking has been steadily advancing into the official chefs of diplomatic establishments.

  

The number of the official chefs of diplomatic establishments produced by Jeonju University's Department of Korean Food Cooking (Dean Cha Kyung-hee) exceeded 70. This is the highest figure in universities across the country, proving its reputation as a specialized Korean food education institution.

  

The official chef of diplomatic establishments is a cook who works at 160 embassies, consulates, and representatives dispatched overseas. The official chef of diplomatic establishments also serve as Korean food diplomats to promote the taste and culture of Korean food, welcoming VIPs all over the world.

  

Graduates of Korean Food Cooking Department have steadily become the official chefs of diplomatic establishments every year for the past 10 years, with cumulative dispatches more than 70 in January 2021. Lim Mi-hyun, who is scheduled to graduate, was appointed as the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai, China, in December, and Kim Min-jung, who is scheduled to graduate, will be appointed as the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chicago, U.S. in late January.

  

Department of Korean Food Cooking continues to provide "training education for Korean chefs entering overseas" through non-regular curriculum programs. It will be fully funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korean Food Promotion Agency. In addition to knowledge and foreign language education, understanding and utilization of local food ingredients, composition, planning of luncheon and dinner menus, and cooking skills will be learned.

  

Students of Jeonju University's Department of Korean Food Cooking have been working as the official chefs of diplomatic establishments at 43 diplomatic offices in 33 countries, and are recognized both at home and abroad for their ability. In December, Chef Jo Wun (Class of 12, Korean Food and Cooking Department), who works in Mozambique, was selected as an excellent employee and received a commendation from the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

  

Cha Kyung-hee, dean of the Korean Food Cooking Department, said, "Jeonju University's Korean Food Cooking Department is the first Korean food specialized education department created by a four-year university and has now grown into a main educational institution for Korean food globalization." She also said, "In Jeonju, the food creative city of UNESCO, we continue the tradition of Korean food and cultivate future Korean food cooking talents who will lead the industrialization and globalization of Korean food."
