JJ Taekwondo Demonstration Team “Sawoolabbey Performance Group”

Selected as a project to revitalize the Taekwondo team for the second consecutive year

Jeonju University's Taekwondo Department was the only university team to be selected for second consecutive year for the “2022 Taekwondo Demonstration Activation Support Project”, a Taekwondo performance support project organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation.

The Taekwondo Demonstration Team revitalization project is a project to upgrade the demonstration of Taekwondo skills to grow into a Taekwondo performance as a "culture and arts" and further support self-sustaining differentiated Taekwondo performance activities.

At a time when sectors of the culture & arts and sports are also in a slump due to COVID-19, Jeonju University's Taekwondo Department is performing "Our Hero Story Season 2, Moohon(武魂)" until December to enhance the status of Taekwondo, starting with the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association (FIATA) on September 15, 2022.

Professor Lee Sook-kyung of Taekwondo Department at Jeonju University said, "Jeollabuk-do is a mecca area of world Taekwondo, so to promote the excellence of Taekwondo in our region and to promote the excellence of Taekwondo through cultural performances, the Sawoolabbey Performance Group, a Taekwondo performing arts group, was established in 2018 with students and graduates, creating Taekwondo content as a performance art, and producing Taekwondo performances enjoyed with local residents every year."

Our Hero Story Season 1 (Fire-fighter) in 2021 was a work that won the grand prize in the Taekwondo performance category organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and was directed by a planned performance on Firefighting Day. Our Hero Story Season 2 (MooHon(武魂)) in 2022 is a proven performance that recently won the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award at the Wonju Dancing Festival Competition. It is a meaningful story that connects the history of Korean martial arts, which says that various martial arts on the Korean Peninsula inherit its meaning with the modern Taekwondo spirit, and dynamically expresses dynamic Taekwondo kicks using the swords, bows, and spears of Taekwondo martial arts.

Jeonju National University's Taekwondo Department is a prestigious Taekwondo demonstration department that has been winning all Taekwondo competitions since 2019, ranking first in the 2022 Muju Taekwondo Culture Festival team competition.

On October 23, at 5 p.m. the Jeonju Hanok Village Traditional Culture Training Institute will hold its fourth performance at an event that invited Korean traders who lead the world trade.
