From 2006 to the present, a total of 328 employees have been employed overseas (only the world's famous hotel brands are stubborn)

Class in English, 80% of major subjects and the role of a driving force to lead employment

- Plans to open an English track major in the next three years to attract foreign students.

Jeonju University announced on May 30 that the Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore, the top brand hotel in Singapore, conducted an on-site interview with hotel management students to recruit outstanding talent.

Jeonju University's hotel management department, known for visiting and hiring from leading overseas hotels even before the pandemic, sent a visit from the hotel as soon as the pandemic situation improved this year.

Currently, the domestic hotel industry has been suffering from a series of unfavorable factors such as manpower reduction and hotel sales due to the pandemic. At a time when society is slowly opening up, the business of hotel companies is increasing several times more than usual, and the manpower shortage is intensifying. Five-star hotels in downtown Seoul are now making every effort to find talented people in the hotel industry. Also, this phenomenon is the same in the overseas hotel industry.

Hotel Group is making every effort to attract outstanding talent by operating a joint academy with Jeonju University's Hotel Management Department this year, giving preferential treatment to students who completed the curriculum. In addition, due to this situation, top-brand hotels abroad have also begun to move to recruit excellent human resources.

What is more special about the visit recruitment of the Ritz-Carlton Millennium Singapore Hotel is that a hotel management student at Jeonju University came to work at the hotel she visited this time and grow up to select her juniors herself.

Professor Shim Young-guk, head of the College of Culture and Tourism, said, "In the meantime, professors of the department have been running and visiting competitive overseas hotels to help recruit students, and this time our student has grown up and come to hire juniors. It's a really rewarding and touching moment," he said.

Professor Ahn Se-gil, head of the hotel management department, said, "A graduate working at a top-brand hotel abroad selected four juniors through a video interview, and a visit recruitment interview was held today through a proposal to visit other hotel officials in person. We decided to give the corresponding graduate an achievement award, and the president himself presented the award."

In fact, the hotel visited to secure 10 outstanding talents through this interview. "Our department is already well known for its English and formal classes, and students' skills and attitudes are so good that I feel that our students working in overseas hotels are doing really well," said Katy Song, a 2010 graduate of F&B Sales and Marketing Manager. She also said "We are in need of more manpower at a time when the pandemic is subsiding, and we participated in the field interview with the thought of wanting more of our juniors to come.”

The decisive reason why Jeonju University's hotel management department is working so hard on English is that proficient English skills are the most important work skills for students who dream of becoming general managers of famous chain hotels around the world with multiculturalism. Already, English ability has become one of the essential promotion requirements for domestic hotel companies.

In 2006, the cumulative number of overseas employment for Jeonju University's hotel management students, which was only two, currently reaches 328. The efforts of faculty members who have been conducting English classes for nearly 20 years are showing the result of a high employment rate.

Among them, many graduates have grown to be middle-aged executives, including Lee, a graduate who worked at the Conred Hotel in Singapore for five years and now works as a room manager after receiving a love call from another hotel, and Hwang, who has been promoted to manager at overseas hotels and is trying to become a new hotelier in another third country.

On the other hand, Jeonju University's hotel management department believes that the internationalization of the department has improved significantly due to its efforts to conduct English classes for nearly 20 years, and plans to open an English track major and accept foreign students from English-speaking countries as freshmen and educate them in the next three years.
