Jeonju University Faculty Members, Deliver ‘Love Sharing’ Scholarship to International Students

Jeonju University said on April 7 that it delivered a ‘love sharing’ scholarship to eight international students for Vietnam, Mongolia, Indonesia, and Uzbekistan at its International Student Service Center.

The scholarship was prepared by 28 fellow faculty members, including Professor Youngwoo Pyun (Department of Japanese Language and Culture) who was appointed in 2018, and five faculty members in charge of the 「Christian and Culture」subject, including Professor Sungeun Yang (pastor of Dreamy church), and a total of 4.29 million won was collected.

The faculty members who participated in the donation decided to give a total of 4 million won, half a million won each, to eight students when they heard that the students who came to Korea were having a hard time with Corona19.

Although many people are suffering in the aftermath of Corona19, the lives of international students have been plainly exposed to pain. As various cultural exchange programs have been reduced and meeting activities have been restricted, there have been fewer opportunities to adapt to Korean life and learn Korean language. In addition, financial difficulties have increased, with part-time jobs being cut off.

Professor Jangsoon Kim (Department of Praise and Worship) said that “For international students suffering from Corona19, with our colleagues’ wishes, we delivered the scholarship. It is not a large amount of money, but I hope that international students will concentrate on their studies with this scholarship and grow into talents needed in various countries.”

A student who received the scholarship (Junior in Carbon Nano New Material Engineering major/Mongolia) said that “Although there were difficulties due to Corona19, with the love and help of many people, I am continuing my studies. Thank you very much.”
