Sungjin Kim, a graduate of Jeonju University, appointed as artistic director of the National Orchestra of Korea

Jeonju University announced that Seongjin Kim, a graduate of Jeonju University as a music major, has been appointed an artistic director for three years terms and will lead the National Orchestra of Korea. Seongjin Kim, the new artistic director of the National Orchestra of Korea, will be appointed on 1^st of this month after the National Theater of Korea’s open recruitment procedures and approval from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

Seongjin Kim, the new artistic director, graduated from New York City Queens University with a master’s degree in Orchestral command after completing his bachelor’s and master’s degree as music major in Jeonju University.

He has served as the head of the Seoul National Orchestra of Korea, the artistic director of the Cheongju Gugak Orchestra, the promotion director of the 2012 Korean Culture and Arts Week, and the director of the Seoul Youth Gugak Band, in recognition of his operational ability and command skills. He also served as a professor at Cheongju University and has been working hard to grow students.

The new artistic director Kim has also been working to globalize Gugak by combining Gugak with orchestras. Since he is seen as a global conductor who can handle both Western and National music with fluency, attention is being paid to the future of the National Gugak Orchestra.
