Department of Hotel Management in Jeonju University, Conducted 2 Days On-the-spot Program at JW Marriott Dongdaemun

- close field learning with an incumbent expert through Job Shadowing Program -

Jeonju University’s department of hotel management announced that it had conducted work experience and on-the-job training for three days from the 12th to the 14th at the JW Marriott Dongdaemun Times Square.

As a program where participants can go to the hotel and meet professional experts in each field of work and get real advice, Hotel Job Shadowing goes beyond previous existing field practices and is a great process to improve the working capacity by learning everyday life of hoteliers and proceeding to mentoring.

For this program, a total of 24 students were selected from the sophomore, junior, and seniors who are currently enrolled in the department of hotel management. They had experienced major hotel works at JW Marriot International’s Dongdaemun Time Square, the world’s largest hotel chain.

First, they learned about each department’s work with the introduction of Marriott at JW Marriott Story, and then had a hands-on experience of hotel duties by touring the management department, guest room department, and food and beverage department, for a day for each department.

Do-hee Kim, a student in the department of hotel management who participated in the Job Shadowing Program, said that “Through the Job Shadowing Program, I could review what I learned in school as a theory, and learned things that I could only feel and learn in the field. Since there was a small number of participants in the program, it was good to have active interaction with current professionals.”

In order to enhance the practical skills of students, Jeonju University is operating a field-oriented curriculum by providing hotel service academy rooms, hotel-style beverage practice rooms, and other various programs such as internships and field experience at domestic and foreign hotels.

Professor Yong-guk Shim, the dean of the department of hotel management, said that “Jeonju University students have been recognized for their practical ability and are receiving attention not only from domestic hotels but also from the world. In order to strengthen student’s ability in their practical skills, we will continue to provide customized education centered on the field.
