Jeonju University Korean food cooking department conducted the ‘Korean Food Festival’ at the Embassy of Zimbabwe on the 30th of the last month with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Korean Foundation for International Exchange.

The event was attended by Zimbabwe National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Trade committee chairman, the president of The Herald, the president of Daily News, Ambassadors of the United States, Japan, and the European Union, Zimbabwe’s political, cultural, and media personalities, K-pop Zimbabwean qualifier winner, the representative of NGO, World Friends Korea volunteer team, and more than 250 people from Korea.

This festival, which was held under the theme of 2018 Korean Food Festival: Harmony of Flavors, Harmony of Minds and Harmony of the World, was held to promote harmony between Korea and Zimbabwe and other people around the world through Korean food.

In order to prepare the food of this festival, professors in the department of Korean food cooking in Jeonju University, Kyung-hee Cha, Soo-in Kim, and Hyun-work Do, were taking part in preparing food for the festival. These three professors showed Korean food, including tables for ‘pyebaek’, ‘baby’s first birthday party,’ and ‘four seasons’ to express the richness of Korean food. Afterward, the bibimbap performance, which symbolizes harmony, got a great response. In addition, they had introduced Korean traditional spice ribs, grilled bulgogi, and seafood pajeon, and received great reviews from local and foreign ambassadors of Zimbabwe.

Professor Kyung-hee Cha said that “even though we could not communicate in language, it was a precious opportunity to share our minds with each other through Korean food,” and she continued to express her thought that “I hope this event will bring Korea and Zimbabwe together and that the nation and people will be connected.”

Zimbabwe is rich in education and natural cultural heritage. The members of many countries hope for the unity and development of Zimbabwe, as they are making efforts for peace and prosperity. Meanwhile, Korean traditional cultural assets such as Korean food, Hanbok, traditional temples, and nature scenery were exhibited in the event hall. Also, Gugak and K-pop (BTS) were used as background music to promote Korean culture to people around the world.
