The 99th National Sports Championship was Held Successfully, Announce the Glory and Vision of Thousand Years of Jeonbuk in the Opening and Closing Ceremony

- Professor Jeong-soo Kim of Jeonju University and students in the Department of Performing Arts showed the Jeonbuk Vision performance in the opening and closing ceremony of National Sports Championship -

The 99th National Sports Championship held in Jeollabuk-do for 7 days from 12th was closed on the 18th. Jeonbuk achieved its goal of ranking third overall. It was a great opportunity to promote Jeonbuk with improved our athletes. In particular, they were able to directly inform Jeonbuk by releasing the history of Jeonju and the provincial government through the performance in the opening and closing ceremonies.

Jeong-soo Kim, the director of the opening and closing ceremonies of National Sports Championship, said “Through the opening and closing ceremonies, we tried to capture the glory and vision of thousand years of Jeonbuk, and the five major provincial government in Jeonbuk Province had transformed into the musical, which includes a thousand years of glory and a vision of new millennium.”

Professor Kim hosted the opening ceremony with large themes of ‘Meeting a Millennium’, ‘Future’, and ‘To Dynamic Tomorrow’. The closing ceremony was also a sensational release of a thousand years of Jeonbuk history and a vision of the new millennium with the story of ‘Millennium Road’, ‘Soaring wings’, and ‘Meet Again’.

Professor Kim also showed pride in the composition of each theme and the cast. At the opening ceremony, students in the department of performing arts in Jeonju University performed five major provincial governments in Jeonllabuk-do as a musical under the theme of ‘A Dream of Five Colors.’ Jeollabuk-do five major provincial governments, the Nonghyup Farm Project, Travel Experience #1, the Saemangeum Era Jamboree Industry, Fusional use of future industry, and welfare, stability, and environmental balance were easily expressed through the stage and costume with song and choreography.

It would not have been easy to express five different provincial government visions during the limited performance time. However, students at Jeonju University wrote lyrics for each vision to help people understand the story and made new costumes to express their choreography and stage performance.

Jeonju University student, Min-Ji Lim (The department of performing arts, senior) said “We transformed agriculture culture and local industry in North Jeolla Province into a performance that includes a bright future and a hopeful new Millennium. It was meaningful to be on stage to promote Jeonllabuk-do at the national event.”

Professor Kim said “While preparing for the opening and closing ceremonies, it was somewhat difficult to balance between the national universality and Jeonbuk identities. We focused on revealing the characteristics of Jeollabuk-do implicitly so that audiences and athletes from other regions do not feel repulsion.” Professor Jeong-soo Kim will also participate as the director of the 39th National Sports Championship for the physically handicapped from the 25th to 29th to promote Jeollabuk-do through performances and events.
