Eun-Jung Jang, Jeonju University Student,  Awarded Eco-friendly Design Prize in Jeollanam-do

-The architecture department of Jeonju University, Awarded 5 works among 10 excellent works -

On October 25, Jeonju University announced that five students, including a Jeonju University student Eun-Jung Jang (The department of architecture, senior) who won the grand prize, won at the ‘3rd Jeollanam-do Eco-Design Award’ at the youth training center in Suncheon, Jeoullanam-do.

Eun-Jung Jang, who received the grand prize, constructed a new resting and experience space by using a tide and the terrain of the Yonghari Pier, which is used only as an abalone workspace. Particularly, it focused on 6-hour sea view of seawater escaping from high tide to low tide, and conceived ‘6-hour memory’ and made it possible to use facilities according to the intensity of illumination.

The ‘6-hour memory’ allows visitors to use the cafe while watching the sea at high tide, and the natural swimming pool and specialty restaurant when the intensity of illumination is medium. At low tide, she designed to travel a beautiful uninhabited island and Mokseom Island or to experience activities such as collecting seaweed like shellfish and oysters.

The judges gave high marks for her creativity, workability, feasibility, and completeness. Eun-Jung Jang (The department of architecture, senior) said that “I wanted to improve existing marina to inform the charm of Mokpo and provide convenient space for tourists and residents. Based on this award-winning experience, I would like to construct buildings that are indispensable for the place and the local residents.”

Eun-Jung Jang, the winner of the grand prize, will be awarded a prize money of 5 million won along with the certificate of award from Jeollanam-do governor. The contest, which was held under the theme of “Re-Desing the Jeonnam Province!”, attracted a lot of works of higher quality than the previous year by expanding the participants to the whole country and eliminating restrictions on participation. Thus, through rigorous screening such as primary documents, panel examination and second PT model examination, ten award-winning works were selected.

Among them, Jeonju University student Subin Sin’s ‘PATCHWORK VILLAGE’ designed to communicate and share space between Aboriginal people and outsiders, Byeongchang Oh’s ‘FROM PORT TO PARK’ designed for relaxation and experience space, Eunha Kim’s ‘FROM PORT TO PARK’, and Changhyeon Lee’s ‘BEING FLAT’ won the prizes.

The works that won in the 3rd Eco-Design Award will be presented at the 5th Eco-Design Exhibition in Jeollanam-do in Suncheon, from October 19 to 26.
